Michelle Martire, Finicky Muse Editorial owner + editor
Hi there, I’m Michelle martire.
With over six years of experience in the dynamic world of publishing, I've had the privilege of working within a diverse range of indie and academic presses, including the late Elephantine Publishing, the esteemed David R. Godine, Publisher, and Wiley. My journey in the publishing industry has been a fascinating one, during which I've developed a deep understanding of the intricacies of the book (and journal!) production process. In addition, I've had the pleasure of assisting authors in refining their craft for nearly nine years.
My journey in this field first began as a writing tutor at Dickinson College, working closely with students to help shape either their academic or creative writing endeavors. I had always enjoyed talking through their writing process, happier still when students returned to me to show me how my guidance helped them land a top mark - the real joy seeing their writing grow and shift over time, until my marks on the page lessened and lessened. I knew then that helping people find their voice, regardless of the discipline, was a purpose I needed to keep close to heart.
My passion for literature and writing eventually led me to study Victorian and Modernist literature at Oxford University during my junior year at Dickinson College. And this love further solidified whilst pursuing my Master's degree in Publishing & Writing from Emerson College, with a primary focus on book editing.
Currently, I serve as a Portfolio Manager at Taylor & Francis, overseeing a wide array of academic journals in statistics. However, my heart truly belongs to the art of editing, which is why I have decided to bring Finicky Muse Editorial to life. I find immense joy in helping authors uncover and polish their unique voices, revealing the stories that linger just beyond their mind's eye.
Whether you're embarking on the exciting journey of crafting your narrative or seeking to refine an existing manuscript, I'm here to assist you every step of the way. Let's work together to bring your literary vision to life!
